A Verona teen was seriously injured after being struck by a train on the CSX right of way in the Town of Verona.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says 16-year old Alec Comfort called 911 Wednesday morning, saying he had been hit by a train.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found Comfort on the tracks under the Route 31 overpass.

Comfort was taken to a local hospital with serious foot and leg injuries, and then transferred to a Syracuse hospital for further treatment.

Amtrak officials say the train's emergency breaking system was engaged at the time of the incident and none of the nearly 85 passengers were injured.

The investigation is continuing.
