Kelly Conroy is a resident in the City of Utica. Utica is growing leaps and bounds economically, creatively, and diversely. Despite these obvious facts, there is still a lot of hate right in our own back yard. Kelly received a note at her house threatening her life because of the work she does for LGBTQ youth in our community. When she brought the matter to police, she was told there was nothing that could be done. The UPD gave her an update saying that there was no crime committed. "They said that it is freedom of speech to leave the note and that the individual would actually have to threaten me in person, on the phone, or via electronic means in order for it to be a crime. Otherwise, what happened is freedom of speech.Do you believe this note is an appropriate expression of Free Speech?

The person who wrote this note believes Kelly is a "pedophile" because she works to counsel and support youths dealing with their own identities. It's 2016 and by this time in our country's history we should be accepting of everyone, no matter what their belief, religion, and sexual orientation. Central New York itself is a melting pot and should be an example for other areas of the country. Utica Police has been in touch with us and is looking further into the incident.
