The apple is one of our most perfect foods. Why is it going to be genetically modified? I thought it was Mother Natures toothbrush. You won't believe the other fruits and vegetables on our table that are already genetically altered through biotechnology.

Tomatoes, potatoes, squash, corn and soybeans have already been genetically altered successfully. Now we can add apples to the list. GMOs (genetically modified organisms) change the DNA structure of the food with the goal of making it grow better or be stronger in general (ex. not turning brown like an apple when cut).

Could there be health risks? We don't know. This is so new that it has only been tested on animals and personally those results do not look promising. European countries are banning genetically modified foods.

I was surprised to find out that 90% of the corn crops in our country are genetically modified. That means we are already eating GMOs. Corn and its derivatives are found in many processed foods. The bottom line is we have a right to know if we are eating genetically modified food. I'm afraid it's too late for that. It's more than likely most of the fish and meat we eat are also modified. There is currently no labeling in the US to alert us to GMO's.
