Despite some heavy downpours that dampened Upstate New York in the past week, experts say the drought in the region has worsened.  It's the worst drought to hit the state since the National Drought Mitigation Center began keeping records 16 years ago.

The only good news in this week's report is that parts of the eastern Mohawk Valley are not being affected by the drought.  However, 41 percent of the upstate area is abnormally dry.

According to Syracuse.com, a new report will be issued next week.  Forecasts are not calling for extended periods of rain in the near future, and experts predict the rest of the summer will be hotter than dryer than usual.
