On the day before Upstate Cerebral Palsy's 65th anniversary, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for the brand new Root Farm on King Road in Sauquoit. The Root Farm when completed will be one of the largest equine therapy facilities in the Northeast. This couldn't have been possible without the generosity and partnership of Alice Root and The Root Farm. The property on which the Root Farm is being built is actually Camp Ronald McDonald which has been partnering with Upstate Cerebral Palsy for just about 20 years.

Joannie Grande is the President of the Board of Directors for The Root Farm and she had this to say about the project;

Once the waiting list got to be longer for the equine therapy we just started looking at all the land that we had here already attached to the camp that was more than successful and so I've got to tell you, it seemed to be the right thing to do at the right time.

In attendance at the groundbreaking were Board Members from The Root Farm, Executive Director Jeremy Earl, and many other dignitaries. It was the perfect day to gather and celebrate the construction of what will be a wonderful and inspiring facility. This location will not only be home to the equine therapy center, but also a source of agricultural goods including eggs, maple syrup and eventually will be the home of a new horticulture building for hydroponics. These agricultural opportunities will allow the Root Farm to be somewhat self-sufficient. The anticipated completion date for the project is slated for sometime this Fall.
