Two central New York schools made America’s Most Challenging High Schools list, published in the Washington Post.

Out of the 2300 high schools on the list nationwide, New Hartford and Clinton were recognized.

New Hartford came in at 288 on the list, down from 250 last year. The rating were based on the following statistic:

Four-year graduation rate 99%
Average ACT score 25.6
Principal's years of experience 10
Average SAT score1, 664
Enrollment 650
Age of school building 115
Students attending 4-year colleges 68%

Clinton also made the list, moving up from 1848 last year to 1160.

Students attending 4-year colleges 67%

Each school's ranking is based on the number of college-level tests given, divided by the number of graduates. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career.
