A century old question will finally be answered. What's behind those dam doors? Find out May 3rd, when Howe Caverns opens a portion of the cave not seen in over 100 years.

Howe Cavern' main attraction is its limestone cave, carved by an underground river over the course of millions of years. It is the second most visited natural attraction in New York, second only to Niagara Falls.

Anne-Marie Galasso, COO of Howe Caverns says “We’re thrilled to finally be able to introduce our guests to the full story of Lester Howe’s discovery and provide them with additional history of the caverns. We’ve been developing this project to further commemorate Lester’s remarkable story for many years.

The new Signature Rock Discovery Tour takes you behind the mysterious dam doors and waterfall. During the 2.5 hour journey, you'll have the opportunity explore formations, walkways, tunnels and rooms, as well as see relics from the cavern’s historic past. The passageway remains untouched since 1900. To explore this portion of the cave you'll have to get down and dirty; traveling on foot and hands and knees.

The Signature Rock Discovery Tour will be open daily at 9:00am starting May 3rd 2015 until June 30th and from Labor Day through Columbus Day. Reservations are required and you must be 14 years of age or older. Helmets with headlamps, boots and other necessary gear will be provided.
