Maurice White, co-founder of Earth Wind & Fire passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 74 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Earth, Wind & Fire have been putting out hits since the 1970's and still a staple at parties, weddings, really any event with a DJ. Their music, still to this day, instantly fills the dance floor. R.I.P Maurice White. We couldn't imagine where music would be today without Earth, Wind & Fire.

Earth, Wind & Fire - September:

This song has a tendency to make people happy when they hear it. Allee Willis, who wrote the song with Maurice White and Al McKay from Earth, Wind & Fire, describes it as "Joyful Music." Songfacts.com says:

"So 'September' was fantastic and thrilling, and they had started the intro of it by the time I had walked into the studio to meet everyone. Just as I opened the door and I heard that little guitar intro, I thought, Oh God, please let this be what they want to work with me on. Because it was so obviously a hit."

Earth, Wind & Fire - Shining Star:

Written by group members Maurice White, Larry Dunn and Philip Bailey, this was a #1 hit on both the R&B and Hot 100 charts. While many hits of the disco era were fun but meaningless, Earth, Wind & Fire considered all their songs meaningful, and this one projects a positive message in a turbulent time. [Songfacts]

Earth, Wind & Fire - Let's Groove:

"Let's Groove," produced by Earth Wind & Fire's eternal lead man Maurice White, was the last Top 10 Billboard hit for the group and their second-to-last appearance in the Billboard Top 40. This is also right at the end of their "classic" period before they went on an eight-year hiatus. The song is about losing yourself in the music, which in the hands of Maurice White is a more spiritual message than you might think. The groove can take you to a place of positivity and presence, and you can find it right on the dance floor. Allee Willis, who wrote "September" with White, say's the chorus of that song goes "bada-ya" because White never let a lyric get in the way of a groove. [Songfacts]
