Most of the time you hear me talking about the good effects of coffee and caffeine, mostly because I love the stuff and generally drink about a gallon of it per day.  But this time I’m actually here to point out some things they maybe you don’t want to hear.  I know I didn’t want to hear about it when I did. Check this out.

They say a morning cup of coffee can ruin your sleep?  How is that possible?  Caffeine is a stimulant and actually last up to 24 hours, therefore interfering with your sleep.  So they say if you are having trouble sleeping, maybe limit consumption.

Bad for your bones?  Yep.  If you drink more than 4 cups per day, what do you end up doing?  You end up spending more time in the bathroom, which in turns causes you to lose calcium, which we know is beneficial for healthy bones.  So if you do drink this much coffee, maybe consume more calcium rich food items such as dairy, leafy vegetables, and nuts.

Your mental health may be at risk.  What?  My mental health is at risk if I DON’T have coffee.  Too much coffee can cause you to feel anxious, irritable, and jittery.  Those who suffer from anxiety should probably avoid caffeine altogether.

Also, tea and coffee with or after a meal can reduce the absorption of iron from your food.  Not enough iron can cause you to get tired more easily and even feel short of breath, ultimately iron deficiency can become an issue.

If you find that it actually takes more coffee or caffeine for you to feel effects, it’s probably because you have built up a tolerance to it.  And if you are consuming more, than that is definitely not good.

I’m not saying you should avoid the stuff completely, maybe just find a way to be more responsible with your consumption.  I know, easier said than done, right?
