The video for Bob Dylan's new release "The Night We Called It A Day" is being described as film noir- inspired and I must agree. It is very stylish, dark and sexy. There is drama, crime, dark alleyways and flashing neon lights all done in black and white old school Hollywood style.

Daniel Lanois, former producer for Bob Dylan says he recorded this collection of standards (Sinatra Project) because he felt it was written from the heart.

“but the music he did hear really touched him and he felt that a lot of that music was written not only by great professional songwriters at the time, but a lot of it was written from the heart, from the wartime, and people just pining for a lover. He felt there was a lot of spirit in that music. He felt there was a kind of beauty, a sacred ground for him.” [The Guardian]

It's also said that 23 songs were recorded and 2 of them are missing. 10 are being used on "Shadows In The Night" which was released in February. This is Dylans first new music release since 2012's release Tempest.

Here is the ad that ran for the actors and actress in the video according to The Guardian. They used Tracy Phillips as the burlesque dancer and Robert Davi who actually had his acting debut with Frank Sinatra who coincidentally Dylan is paying tribute to with this album.

““[DANCER] Female, 40+, full figured. Burlesque dancer, will need to dance in audition. Think timeless a la Lana Turner or Ava Gardner. [SKETCHY GUY] 50s, rough trade, pock marked face, etc. [FAT GUY] 45+, all around huge. [BARTENDER] Male, 30s+, looking for characters.”

Bob Dylan is joining a long list of musicians that have recorded the standards. This album was recorded live and they only did 1 or 2 takes with absolutely no fluff not even headphones!

"Shadows In The Night" is scheduled to hit the road April 10th in Atlantic City.
