The Elder Scrolls Online Might Not Have a Console Release in 2014

A ZeniMax Online Studios representative has updated us on the PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Elder Scrolls Online along with the future plans for the Thieves Guild, Justice System, Dark Brotherhood and Player Housing.

In an interview with IGN, The Elder Scrolls Online’s creative director, Paul Sage, claims that the estimated six months of extra development time ZeniMax acquired by delaying the game’s console editions did not guarantee a 2014 release.

“I will tell you we are working round the clock to try and make that happen,” Sage said. “I can’t guarantee anything, that would be foolish to do, but we are certainly working with that goal in mind.” He also claimed that by the time it does release, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of The Elder Scrolls Online will have months’ worth of additional content that it wouldn’t have had at its original, intended start.

Sage also mentions that a Justice System will be incorporated into the game before introducing the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, especially since there should be punishments in play for being caught stealing from or murdering NPCs. On the frequently asked topic of Player Housing, Sage claims that it probably won’t be introduced until a year or two into the game’s release.

“My prediction is we’ll probably get the Justice System in before we get the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood added, just because we want that system to be fully fleshed out and players used to the system before they have to use it,” Sage said. “I don’t have a date lined up, but it’s a little further out. I wouldn’t expect it in the first four updates.”

This week also marks the launch of The Elder Scrolls Online’s first major content update, which includes the Craglorn area.
