French fries are serious business. A bad french fry can make you feel sad, while a good batch can put a smile on your face for hours. Just me? Okay...

Apparently, I'm not the only one who feels that way, because a food critic from the Los Angeles Times takes his french fries seriously, too. So much so, he published a comprehensive ranking of french fries in United States. Turns out, 3 of the top 5 fries are available right here in Central New York.

The fries were graded on two criteria: taste and texture.

Here's where it all came down. The BEST fries are (in order):

  1. Five Guys
  2. McDonald's
  3. Del Taco
  4. Steak n Shake
  5. Arby's

Five Guys snatches the fry crown from McDonald's.

The WORST fries?

  1. In-N-Out Burger
  2. Sonic
  3. Rally's
  4. Jollibee
  5. Wienerschnitzel

As a fry connoisseur myself, I have to agree with his assessment -  both Five Guys and McDonald's make amazing fries - even though they're different fry experiences.

I'm also partial to Wendy's fries, and, while I enjoy the Whopper - Burger King's fries are the WORST. That weird coating just ruins the whole thing.

Of course, these are all franchise fries. Where are your favorite non-franchise fries in Central New York?
