45 years after its initial creation, the Beach Boys' long-unreleased 'Smile' album took home a 2013 Grammy Award in the Best Historical Album category, beating out one of their most famous former rivals.

Well, to be perfectly specific, it was the lavishly packaged five CD, two-LP 2012 deluxe box set release of 'The Smile Sessions' that took home the honor. If you've had the chance to browse through this collection, you probably saw this victory coming a long time ago.

In what must have been at least a partially redemptive moment for Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson, he defeated former Beatle Paul McCartney's 'Ram' deluxe edition for this honor. According to legend, Wilson gave up on finishing 'Smile' partially because he felt the Beatles had "got there first" with their groundbreaking 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' album.
