Thanos has been peeking out from behind the fringes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years now, and with next summer’s Infinity War, we’ll finally get to see what makes him such a meanie. Apparently, according to Kevin Feige, Thanos is going to do something within just the first few minutes of Infinity War that’ll cement his reputation as the worst villain the Avengers have ever gone up against.

During an appearance at Brazil’s Comic-Con (h/t Comic Book Resources), Feige told fans what they could expect from the MCU’s biggest bad:

Within the first five minutes of Infinity War, people will understand why Thanos is the biggest and baddest villain in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

You know, we’ve been teasing Thanos since the very first Avengers film. Remember the end of Avengers, the very end of the movie he turns around in the chair and you realize something bad is coming. We’ve been teasing him for years and the trick is when you tease something for that long you have to deliver.

Here’s my theory, since you’re asking: at the very end of Thor: Ragnarok (spoilers, obviously), in one of the mid-credits scenes, we see Thor and his Asgardian comrades onboard their ship, escaping from Asgard, when Thanos’ Sanctuary II rises from the depths of space like a great white shark. It’s the closest he’s come, physically, to any of our heroes, and it’s clear that this altercation is not going to go well.

Then, in the Infinity War trailer, we see Thor onboard the Milano asking the Guardians, “Who the hell are you guys?” Something definitely happened in the interim between that scene and the mid-credits sting from Ragnarok, and I’m willing to bet we’re going to see Thanos completely decimate Thor’s buddies right when the movie begins.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
