Ten Bar Rules From An Authentic Irish Pub
Does your favorite bar have house rules posted?
If you happen to frequent The Merry Ploughboy in Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland than your answer would be yes.
A list of ten rules posted in the Merry Ploughboy have begun to make their rounds on the internet, with over 1 million views so far.
Now most of these rules are either tongue-in-cheek or common knowledge for experienced bartenders, but the list is pretty spot on and worth a look.
Here's a couple of my favorites:
- Persons drinking a pint of Guinness before it has fully settled will be immediately barred.
- Telling lies is unacceptable, you may however grossly exaggerate.
- If there is ever any confusion, the fuller beer is yours.
You can see the complete list on the Irish Central Website.
Being a huge fan of Guinness myself, my favorite is definitely #3 and I feel that rule should apply to bartenders as well. There's nothing worse than a barkeep who doesn't know how to properly pour a Guinness (but that's a story for another day).
What are your favorite rules on the list? Do you have any to add that didn't make it?
