Most 14-year-old girls are making Justin Bieber collages for their bedroom walls and experimenting with sex with young boys trying to look like Justin Bieber. Then there is Kathryn, a 14-year-old Michigan gearhead who has spent the past year-and-a-half restoring a 1986 Pontiac Fiero.

She started the project when she was 12, after telling her parents she wanted to buy the rusted out chassis with money from her babysitting gig and restore the ride to its former glory. Kathryn and her family have been methodically documenting the progress of the project online, complete with photos of her drilling door rivets and more.

Kathryn told her parents that she wanted to restore this particular vehicle because of the gas mileage economy and the fact that it would be a cheap education, teaching her the inner workings of a car for a relatively small amount of money. Kathryn is either the smartest teen alive or she is up to something.

The teen hopes to have the her sweet set of wheels operational and on the road by her 16th birthday, just in time for her driver’s test. Wouldn’t it suck if she failed the test? “16-year-old girl dismantles 1986 Pontiac Fiero in record time using only a hammer.”
