Hey, what do you have on your feet right now?  Me?  I happen to be wearing my Tevas that I have had for a few years now.  Love these shoes this time of year.  They’re comfy and easy to wear.  However, I read something that could very well change how and when I wear these shoes.  Listen up…

It's one of the most common and popular forms of footwear during the warmer months.

Summer is prime time for everyone to wear sandals and flip flops, but they can actually pose a health risk.

So there are a few things you need to know before you buy your next pair flip flops.

As comfortable as they are, flip flops can be harmful to your feet.

Podiatrists will tell you that flip flops and sands don’t provide the same level of protection that a traditional shoe would.  Using flip flops could even possibly lead to foot injuries and even skin cancer.

People typically disregard protecting their feet when they are out enjoying summer activities, like putting sunscreen on their feet.

Now some doctors are warning of a new danger.  Certain materials are more porous and when moisture gets in, fungal infection can occur and that leads to bacterial infections.

I’m not saying you should stop wearing the summer shoes, just be a little more conscious on how to take care of your feet while you are wearing them.  I’m not giving up my Tevas, so I may be looking at different ways to avoid these infections.
