New York State is home to some of the most beautiful scenery you will find anywhere on the planet. One of the best ways to take in this beauty is by hiking some of the thousands of trails and mountains across the state.

Here's a list of some of the more challenging Day Hikes you can enjoy here in New York.

This list isn't for beginners, but if you're up for a challenge and can handle some physical activity, you'll be rewarded with beautiful vistas and peaceful surroundings.

Located near Lake George, this hike is a 3 mile one way trip that rewards you with a stunning view of Lake George.

This trail near Caroga Lake, NY in the Southern Adirondack Mountains is a 3.4 mile 'out and back' trip. The trail itself isn't too difficult, but the challenge comes at the end when you scale the cliffs to discover a beautiful vista of the surrounding Good Luck Lake and Spectacle Lake.

One of the Adirondack High Peaks, this trail takes you on a 4.8 mile round trip, ending with amazing views of Lake Placid and the surrounding mountains.

Found in the Central Adirondacks in Warren County, the trail offers an option of a 3+ mile loop, or a 1.4 mile hike straight up the summit. The summit trail, while short climbs to an elevation of 1,150 feet. Steep sections that include ladders offer a challenge, but the reward is a view that you will never forget.
