Maybe you've enjoyed the weather lately in Upstate New York. Someone, or something, that isn't enjoying the weather is fisherman. Due to the recent droughts in Upstate, trout fishing is suffering this season.
While you may have celebrated the mild winter we received here in Central New York, if you're a fisherman, you'll celebrate even more. Thanks to the mild winter, many streams are being stocked early with trout before April 1st.
If you've had cabin fever these past few months, waiting to get out in the wild with fishing pole in hand, your day is comin'. Trout fishing season opens Tuesday, April 1. My favorite opening day was April 1, 1969, when my buddy and I caught our limit by 12 noon.
