On May 2nd, 1983 an F3 tornado and other storms ripped through and ravaged 11 New York counties. People were killed, several were injured, and there was detrimental property damage. A group of volunteers, led by local contractor Derrick Baker, came together to make a difference and pick up the pieces in Smithfield after last years tornado leveled homes and killed four people.
