Back in the 1950s and 60s, a number of rock & roll artists starting coming out with their own holiday songs. And, on this day in 1964, "The Beach Boys" made their first appearance on the the teen music TV show "Shindig" singing their original Christmas song.
Just because the artists we cover on Oldiez 96 have been around for decades doesn't mean they're down and out and many are still putting out new music or compilations. Each Tuesday we're going to highlight the new efforts of these music veterans and here's a snapshot of what's going on in the classic genre for the week:

The Beach Boys are making music again. Al Jardine reunited with bandmates Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston to release new music to aid Red Cross relief efforts in Japan. Two songs will be made available for the first time on a 7” vinyl single
