Queen drummer Roger Taylor put to rest the rumors that Queen, with Freddie Mercury appearing via hologram, would be appearing at the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics, which are taking place in London this summer. In a recent interview, Taylor said the idea was brought up, but ultimately rejected.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Queen‘s ‘We Will Rock You’ musical in London, the band is bringing back Freddie Mercury. The late singer will appear via hologram during next week’s run of shows at the Dominion Theatre.
The long gestating movie about Queen seems to be one step closer to reality, with reports suggesting that director Stephen Frears (‘Dangerous Liasons,’ ‘High Fidelity,’ ‘the Grifters,’ ‘The Queen’) is in the running to helm the project.

Queen remain content to perform limited dates, such as the 2012 Sonisphere Festival and a night at Moscow’s Olympic Arena, with Adam Lambert standing in for Freddie Mercury. However, drummer Roger Taylor has taken on the role of serving as producer and musical director for the Queen Extravaganza, an “Official Queen Tribute Show,” which will hit clubs and theaters across North America this summer, the band announced today (March 28).
