Our sister station, WIBX, was on the scene in Mohawk and Herkimer from the first tense moments as the search began for the man who would later be identified at Kurt Myers.

It was a typical Wednesday morning for me. I'd completed the morning radio show and made my way to the Utica Boilermaker headquarters for a meeting scheduled with Executive Director Tim Reed.

One year ago the Villages of Herkimer and Mohawk suffered a tragedy as Kurt Myers allegedly shot and killed 4 people leading to a near 19 hour standoff that ended with him also shooting and killing an FBI K-9 before being killed by police.
One of the heroes that emerged from the 15 hour standoff with Kurt Myers, the alleged perpetrator in the shootings in Herkimer and Mohawk, was a German shepherd named Ape.
