The exhibition has 63 works of art, created at different points in Warhol’s career, including advertising, celebrity portraits, flowers, camouflage and more. The exhibition also features Warhol’s wallpaper with cows and his silver mylar balloon clouds.
Because Warhol was an astute observer of social mores, his artwork at once captures and reflects the gloss of packaging and marketing has mushroomed in post-World War II America. That rampant consumerism continues to define the United States in the new century demonstrates the power of Warhol’s insight. [Mary Murray MWPAI Curator]
