A young man who wanted to lavish Christmas gifts on his teenage girlfriend's three kids allegedly left out a crucial step in his good deed: paying for the merchandise. Cops in Crawford, Georgia, say 17-year-old Matthew Dillion Sparks was spotted on surveillance cameras waiting for door greeters to be distracted before rolling a cart laden with toys and other items out the door of a Walmart and into the parking lot. When questioned, Sparks insisted he wasn't stealing the $238 worth of goodies, but meant to put them on layaway after he returned to the store for a drink. The arresting officer reported both excuses evaporated because the suspect, "only had 18 cents on his person," and, "there is no way to put the items on layaway outside the store in the parking lot."
