According to coroner's officials Soul Train creator Don Cornelius committed suicide early Wednesday morning, February 1st. The coroner's office released their determination after conducting an autopsy Friday. Investigators are sill waiting the results of toxicology tests before issuing a final report.

Police went to Cornelius' home early Wednesday morning after receiving a call from his son. Tony Cornelius called police after receiving a phone call from his father. 

The 75-year-old Cornelius created "Soul Train" in 1970. The show became one of the longest-running syndicated shows in history.

Tony Cornelius issued a statement last week thanking fans for their outpouring of support and asking for privacy:

"We thank all the well-wishers and the fans who have supported the 'Soul Train' legacy. Love, Peace and Soul," the statement read, incorporating his father's famous sign-off from the show. - MyFoxChicago.com
