What do you miss the most about Summer? Camping? Swimming? No snow? Behind my house sits a garage that houses most of my summer playthings, including my grill and my smoker.  I guess I can’t really call them summer playthings,  I did use the smoker at Thanksgiving this year.  Now, with the three feet of snow in my yard, the task of making my way out to the smoker out of the garage, just seems like way too much work.  I do miss fresh BBQ this time of year.

I can get the packaged stuff all day long, and I could make a special trip to go somewhere that specializes in smoked meats, but that, of course can get somewhat expensive.  To assist you in getting into the season of no snow, here are some of the best cities to get BBQ.  One day, if I ever retire, I’ll make it my goal to try every one of them.

Honolulu Hawaii – Really?  I never would have guessed this as one of the top cities to get good BBQ. We often forget that  this place is famous for Kalua pork, and there are Asian influenced specialties as well.

Murphysboro Illinois – The heart of the Midwest where they have cattle on every corner just like we have pizza joints.   This place, thanks to Mike Mills and his restaurant, is always a competitor at Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest.  Here you’ll find baby back ribs, -- baby back ribs, juicy pulled pork, pink-ringed brisket slices.  Is your mouth watering yest?

New York, New York – Surprised?  Mainly due to the newness.  There are not generation after generation of pitmasters, but there is state of the art equipment to make the BBQ.
