Significant Rain Expected In Central New York
Rain is on the way and will fill up the smaller streams and creeks...and potentially cause minor flooding issues across CNY.
The temperatures will be warmer for the next few days. However, the weather will also turn wet Wednesday through Friday, as a frontal zone approaches and then stalls out over our region.
The National Weather Service (NWS) out of Binghamton says:
Wednesday will mark the beginning of an extended period of warmer temperatures and an increase for rain... Best chances for passing showers Wednesday will be in the afternoon...Showers will tend to come-and-go fairly quickly...the southerly flow will push temperatures into the mid-50s-mid 60s range for highs...The latest ECMWF (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) is somewhat concerning, with the secondary surge of QPF (Quantitative Precipitation Forecast predicts the potential amount of future precipitation for a specified region or area.) on Friday fairly heavy...There is the potential for widespread 1-2 inches of rain Wed night through Friday...with numerous locations +3" not out of the question. The rain should be spread across long enough of a period to mitigate any short-fused/flash flooding issues. However, headwaters and even a few main stem rivers may reach bankfull during this time. The likelihood of minor small stream/creek flooding has definitely increased with this latest forecast. [NWS]
