Showtime's upcoming monster-mash series 'Penny Dreadful' has tapped some impressive talent with the likes of Eva Green, Josh Hartnett and Timothy Dalton, though not in the roles of any familiar literary characters. Now finally, the buzzworthy pilot has found its Dorian Gray in 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' star Reeve Carney!

Carney will play the aforementioned series regular role of Dorian Gray, reprising Oscar Wilde's "supernaturally attractive and decadent" young protagonist. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Penny's Dorian has also been described as confident, mesmerizing and isolated.

Helmed by ‘Skyfall‘ duo Sam Mendes and John Logan, Showtime describes the “psychosexual horror series” thusly:

In PENNY DREADFUL, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula – become embroiled in Victorian London. The series weaves together these classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation.

Dalton will play Sir Malcolm, a hardened African explorer on a deeply personal quest, while Hartnett will take the role of Ethan Chandler, a “man of action and daring” who doesn’t shy away from violence. Green will play female lead Vanessa, enigmatic with similarly haunted eyes, who comes to prove herself “a force to be reckoned with and the heroine of the series.”

Production on ‘Penny Dreadful’ will begin this October for a likely spring airdate, while the Oscar-nominated Logan has reportedly penned all eight episodes of the new series. Tell us your picks for Frankenstein's monster and Dracula characters in the comments, now that Carney has webbed up the role of Dorian Gray!
