If you're a skier and a parent then no doubt you had the dickens scared out of you in the last few weeks seeing those kids dangling from chair lifts by their backpacks at different locations around the country.

All of the ski areas I spoke with are reminding their chair operators to be the first line of defense when it comes to loose clothing, equipment and back packs not being carried safely by skiers. While this is a good start the chair lift operators need more eyes checking skiers and encourage adults to monitor their children and the gear they have with them while skiing. In short be proactive. So far there is no move to ban back packs at any of the ski areas in Central New York.
