Canajoharie Police were contacted by concerned parents after a level two sex offender was found to be having breakfast with his young niece at East Hill Elementary School.

A post on the Canajoharie Police Department Facebook page explained the incident. It is reported that the subject was at the school eating breakfast with his niece, which school policy allowed.

During his time at the school he had passed several students signed notes on napkins that read "I Love You." Police emphasize that at no point was the man alone with any of the children. Police were contacted by a concerned person at the school, and police informed them that it was not illegal for the man to be on school property.

Canajoharie Police say, "He is not on probation or parole so he has no restrictions about being in the school with his niece. Due to the disruption caused by giving out these notes to children, the school has banned him from the school property at any time. If he is found on the property he can be arrested for Trespass."

As a result of this incident school officials have decided to change their policy, and they will no longer allow family members into the school to have breakfast with the students. There also will be a person at the front door from now on during school hours. This may slow pickup and drop off slightly but the priority is the safety of the school children.
