On the heels of losing their best defensive and overall player with Darrelle Revis, it looks like another Jet has been grounded. It was reported by the New York Daily News and the AP that Santonio Holmes will miss the rest of season due to a foot injury. Holmes apparently suffered a Lisfranc injury.

“A Lisfranc injury occurs when metatarsal bones are displaced from the tarsus in the foot. This usually involves a significant ligament tear and often small bone fractures as well. The tear most commonly occurs in the ligament that holds the first two toes in the foot together. However, the precise details of Holmes' injury have not yet been released.”

Holmes currently leads the Jets with 20 catches in four weeks this season. The next best Jets receivers behind him are rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill and tight end Dustin Keller. Both receivers are recovering from hamstring injuries. Can we possibly have anymore injuries this season?

Holmes was injured when his left leg buckled without contact on a reception on the first play of the fourth quarter in Sunday’s 34-0 loss to the 49ers. Holmes let the ball go as he quickly grabbed his knee. Carlos Rodgers scooped up the fumble and ran it back for a 51-yard touchdown as the Jets wide receiver writhed in pain near theSan Franciscosideline.”

It would be smart to assume that we are on the lookout for a veteran wide receiver. I’m doubting that free agent Plaxico Burress will re-join the Gang Green.

Who else could we possibly pick up?
