Screen Gems announced that Sam Raimi, known for his 'Evil Dead' and 'Spider-Man' trilogies, will be executive producer of the live action adaption of The Last of Us. Even more surprising is the actress Raimi and Neil Druckmann have approached to play Ellie.

Badass Digest reports that Screen Gems just shocked San Diego Comic-Con by bringing Sam Raimi and Neil Druckmann out to announce a full-length feature based on The Last of Us. Druckmann, the original game's writer and creator, will be writing the live action adaptation with Raimi being its executive producer.

“What’s unique is that Neil’s writing the script. I have a great deal of confidence we’re going to end up with a script that’s true to the strengths of the game,” Raimi said.

Raimi and Druckmann announced they have met with Maisie Williams to star as Ellie. Williams is known for her role of Arya Stark on HBO's 'Game of Thrones'. That is a spot-on casting choice if you ask us. The only thing they would need afterwards is Jeff Bridges to play Joel. Druckman did mention that they only spoke to her about it over coffee and that nothing is written in stone.

“We talked about a very different ending,” Druckman said. “[Raimi] convinced me to go back to the original experience. It doesn’t need to be different.”

“I thought I was going to have to protect this movie from producers. It looks like I’m going to have to protect it from you," Raimi jested in return.

Sam Raimi also revealed that he and Bruce Campbell will be developing an 'Evil Dead' TV series, according to Bloody Disgusting.

Sure the Cordyceps virus of The Last of Us is pretty bad, but is it worse than 5x5's Best Video Game Viruses? We think not.
