For the entire month of November, the Rome Historical Society will be sponsoring a letter writing campaign for Operation Gratitude. These letters will be sent out to deployed troops, veterans, new recruits, and wounded warriors.

Operation Gratitude is a not-for-profit organization that sends over 100,000 care packages annually to military members. Letters are considered the most treasured item in their care packages.

Letters and artwork will be accepted, and no envelope is required. Here are the following guidelines for letters that Operation Gratitude has provided:

- Specify if a letter is for a deployed troop, veteran, new recruit, or wounded warrior

- Avoid political and/or strongly religious commentary (saying that you pray for the troops, etc., is acceptable)

- Adults can include contact information so the recipient can reply; children should provide first names only, and no addresses

- Be sure to thank the recipient for their selfless service

Please contact the Rome Historical Society with further questions about the Operation Gratitude letter writing drive by emailing educator@romehistoricalsociety.org. Visit the Operation Gratitude website or Facebook for more information about this charitable organization. The Rome Historical Society is located at 200 Church Street in Rome, and is handicap accessible. It is open 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Tuesday through Friday, and 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday.
