We have enough to worry about everyday, but if you live in Rome, New York you have one more thing to add to that list - A scammer in the area.

There have been quite a few reports from residents in Rome about a man coming up to their doors and asking for money. Now, this should raise red flags no matter what, but it was what he was collecting donations for that have had people a little less skeptical.

According to the reports, the man said he was collecting money for the Capitol Theatre - Which is a cause a lot of people would be willing to jump on board with. The only problem is, it's not real.

On Wednesday, a post went up on the Positively Rome's Facebook Page,

A Message From The Rome Capitol Theatre:
"It has come to our attention that there is a young man going door to door in Rome soliciting donations on our behalf. The Capitol does not solicit donations in this way so please be aware if you encounter this person, who apparently may also be asking for yard work jobs."

Be careful in Rome - Especially if someone is coming up to your door asking for donations. Always remember if something doesn't feel right, than it probably isn't.

And a big thank you to everyone who reported this incident, and those who posted it on Facebook. It's important to get the message out there so people don't end up getting scammed, trying to do a nice thing for a historic piece of the community.
