Daltrey and Jett performed individual sets before joining together for the surprise duet on Eddie Cochran’s Top 10 hit from 1958. Daltrey delivered an energetic and youthful performance, while Jett held her own as the two traded lines and dance steps.
The concert was a benefit for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, to help fund a new wing for teens in the hospital. Daltrey and Who bandmate Pete Townshend are both involved with Teen Cancer America, a non-profit organization.
Of course, Daltrey and Jett each have personal history with ‘Summertime Blues.’ The Who took their version to No. 27 in the summer of 1970. Jett recorded her take during the sessions for her ‘Bad Reputation’ album in 1980.
