More than 132,000 pounds of ground beef products were recalled as it allegedly was contaminated with E coli.

The ground beef items were produced and packaged on June 21, 2018, and has the number “EST. 86R” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide. The USDA has released a list of stores were the possibly contaminated meat was sold. Those stores include:

    • Aldi Stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin

    • FoodMaxx Stores in California

    • Meijer Nationwide

    • Pak N Save Stores in California

    • Safeway/Albertson's Stores in California, Colorado, and Hawaii

    • Sam's Club Stores in North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia

    • Target Nationwide

    • Vons Stores in California

17 illnesses and one death have been reported from ground beef products that may be contaminated with E coli. E. coli O26, like the more common E. coli O157:H7, is a serovar of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). People can become ill from STECs 2–8 days (average of 3–4 days) after exposure to the organism.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions regarding the recall can call 1-844-419-1574.
