Listen to Paul Simon’s New ‘Stranger to Stranger’ Track ‘Cool Papa Bell’
Paul Simon is streaming "Cool Papa Bell," the second song made available from his new album Stranger to Stranger, due June 3.
"Cool Papa Bell" arrives several weeks after the premiere of Stranger to Stranger's first single, "Wristband," and offers fans a better look at a record he's described as "About getting you to actually hear something in a new way ... about making music that sounds old and new at the same time – music with a sense of mystery."
To that end, Simon told Rolling Stone that he branched out during sessions for the LP by working with Italian EDM artist Clap! Clap!, who he lauded as an artist that "makes music sound new and old at the same time," and delving into the unique tonal approaches pioneered by composer Harry Partch.
"Parch said there were 43 tones to an octave and not 12," explained Simon. "He had a totally different approach to what music is and had to build his own instruments so he could compose on a microtonal scale. That microtonal thinking pervades this album."

Simon has already announced plans to tour in support of Stranger to Stranger, including his first-ever appearance on Austin City Limits. The album marks his first release since 2011's So Beautiful or So What and is available for pre-order in a variety of formats.
