During the early hours of December 19th, a southeast bound vehicle on 840 crossed the double-yellow line to pass other vehicles which then struck a northwest bound suburban driven by Westmoreland's own Patrick Cardillo. Since then, a GoFundMe page was set up for his family and it's been breaking records every day.

Patrick was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for multiple fractures and internal injuries but was later transferred to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.

Patrick has been faced with facial lacerations, a skull fracture, subdural brain bleed, ruptured diaphragm, shattered pelvis, collapsed lung, broken ankle, leg and arm as well as internal organ damage. His injuries have already required multiple surgeries and will require extensive surgeries in the days ahead."

Patrick's family is well know in Westmo. I went to school with Patrick, and even though I wasn't super close with him, I knew how much of a class act he truly is. I remember sneaking into a senior lounge he had, and always got a good laugh from him. His family is filled with very hard workers, and great people all around. His Dad still works for the school district, and occasionally will call me at my desk about interns being dropped off at our office from the school. I can't express enough how much of a good guy he truly is, and I'm glad friends and family have been so supportive for him during this time.

Friends of the Cardillo's launched a GoFundMe in the wake of this accident:

As friends of the Cardillo family, we know that many of you have been reaching out for a way to help and simply aren't certain how. This gofundme account has been set up to help cover the expenses that insurance won't during Patrick's road to recovery . The extent of his injuries and recovery is unknown but rehab is anticipated and the time frame ofmobility on his feet again is also undetermined. His expenses insurmountable and his planned future on hold. We are hoping that this will allow the Cardillo family to find some sort of solice in the wake of this recent tragedy. All donations will go directly to the family to counter the bills that will be faced during his road to recovery."

Something amazing about this GoFundMe, it broke it's $25K goal in just 8 days. Currently it's just shy of $30K. Pat is very grateful for friends and families donating across CNY:

It's pat, thank you everyone for thinking of me over the last week. It means so much to me. Thank you so much for all the messages, donations and visitors. I love you all so much"

You're still able to donate here. All across Facebook/Twitter love and support is being shown for our very own Pat. It's amazing seeing what a great community this area truly is.
