More than two dozen giant Gibson guitar sculptures designed in honor of Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne and others are going to be auctioned for charity. We have the full story from Ultimate Classic Rock.

The Gibson GuitarTown public art exhibition was unveiled back in August of 2010 to celebrate the musicians, local personalities and prominent nightlife spots associated with the Sunset Strip. It featured a total of 26 Gibson guitar sculptures designed by local visual artists and displayed at historic sites on the Strip. Other rockers honored include Kiss, Slash, Peter Frampton and Beach Boy Brian Wilson, who was on hand for the ribbon-cutting.

Now the art guitars are going up for auction December 3rd at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills and online at www.julienslive.com. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Los Angeles Youth Network, the West Hollywood Arts & Cultural Commission and the West Hollywood Library.

Other cities that have hosted GuitarTown exhibitions include Nashville, Miami, London and Austin, Texas.
