13 Other Cities Named ‘Frankfort’ You Can Move to If You Don’t Like Ours

Not only Frankfort, but we found 35 other cities named Vernon, 10 other places called Yorkville, and a handful of other cities in Central New York that share their name with other places around the country.

It's a different take on "How Unique Are the City/Town Names in Central New York," as it continues for part four. We are looking at eight more cities in Central New York and seeing how common they are across the United States...

Frankfort

If you don't like living in Frankfort, New York you have 13 other cities and towns across the country you could move to. One of them has a lighthouse overlooking Lake Michigan. Another one is a state capital, and still another was named the 36th fastest growing suburb in the US by Forbes.com (back in 2007). Here are the other states with a Frankfort:
- Alabama
- Indiana
- Illinois (decently sized, with a population of 17,782 in 2010)
- Kentucky (the state capital)
- Kansas
- Michigan (that's the one with the lighthouse)
- Maine
- New Jersey
- Ohio (was originally called "Old Town")
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota (tiny town, with a population of 149 in 2010)
- Tennessee
- Washington (if you want to live in a ghost town)

Oriskany

If you don't want to live in Oriskany, New York you do have another option. We suggest you just stick with ours, though. Not that we're knocking the other Oriskany, but we're biased. Look at all the stuff we have in Central New York. Would it be worth moving to Virginia just to live in another area that shares the name Oriskany? They do have an "Oriskany Square" in the center of the village, which reminds us of Oneida Square in Utica, though.

DeWitt

This is an interesting one... There are seven other places named DeWitt across the country, but only two of them capitalize the "W," like we do. It's still spelled the same, so we're going to count them. Here are the other states where you'll find a DeWitt:
- California
- Georgia (they capitalize the "W")
- Illinois (named after the New York Governor DeWitt Clinton)
- Kentucky
- Michigan (also capitalize the "W," and also named for the NY Governor)
- Virginia
- West Virginia

***Oh, and just another fun fact: Although two states named their cities after the New York Governor DeWitt Clinton, the DeWitt in New York is NOT named for that governor.

Yorkville

You may want to stay in Yorkville, New York, it looks like we have one of the best ones. Actually, we have two areas called Yorkville. There's the one we're all familiar with in Central New York, but there's also another one that's a neighborhood in Manhattan. There are still 10 other Yorkvilles across the country if you're interested:
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Illinois (it's official name is "United City of Yorkville")
- Indiana
- Michigan
- Ohio (which was originally a mining community)
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- Wisconsin

Ilion

You won't have any luck if you want to move to a different Ilion, the only one you'll find is in New York. Ilion can be added to the list with Dolgeville, Canastota, Stittville, and Holland Patent. These places are one-of-a-kind, with no other cities or towns that share their name across the country.

Vernon

Well, if a new Vernon is what you're looking for, you have plenty of options. There are 35 other areas in the United States. A lot of them are pretty small, but if that's what you want, you're set. Still, Vernon, Louisiana is pretty big if you're looking for more people and more things to do. Here is where you'll find the other Vernons in our country:
- Alabama
- Arizona (tiny area, with a population of only 122)
- California (probably not a good place to move to, brags their "Exclusively Industrial")
- Colorado (even smaller than Arizona, with a population of 29 in 2010)
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Florida
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana (pretty big with a population of 52,334)
- Maryland
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Mississippi (actually has three areas named "Vernon")
- New Jersey
- Ohio (also has three towns and cities named "Vernon")
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Texas (It was originally named "Eagle Springs" by the Tonkawa Indians)
- Tennessee
- Utah
- Vermont
- West Virginia (some local child named the city, but it's unknown why)
- Wisconsin

Cold Brook

You have one other option if you want to live in a place called Cold Brook, but you don't want to live in New York. Your only other Cold Brook in the United States is in Maine. So the choice is yours, stay in New York or move to Maine, to an area just outside of Bangor.

Poland

This is the last area we're going to look at this week. There are eight cities and towns named Poland, with two of them being right here in New York. One of them we're familiar with in Central New York, but the other one is all the way on the western side of the state in Chautauqua County. If you still want to get out of the state, you can try one of these Polands around the country:
- Indiana
- Louisiana
- Maine (which is a historic resort area... Sounds nice)
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Wisconsin
