Area residents had a chance to sit down with members of local law enforcement Friday morning and talk over a cup of coffee.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office hosted "Coffee With A Cop" events at several coffee shops.

Undersheriff Rob Swenszkowski was at the Dunkin' Donuts in Marcy.

Swenszkowski says some of the topics discussed included the climate between the police and community throughout the nation, questions about pistol permits, equipment and vehicle traffic enforcement.  He says residents also complemented the Sheriff's Office on the job they do, which is appreciated.

The Utica Police Department also held its first “Coffee with a Cop” event at the Utica Coffee Roasting Company on Genesee St.

"Coffee With A Cop" is a program that was started in 2011 by the Hawthorne, California Police Department to help build a positive relationship between police and the community.
