Put down the dumb bell and pick up the wine glass. A new study from the University of Alberta proves a glass of red wine is equivalent to an hour of exercise. The resveratrol in red wine helps your physical performance, heart function and muscle strength.

"Resveratrol could mimic exercise or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise," explained Principal investigator Jason Dick. It can also be found in blueberries, peanut butter, dark chocolate and red grapes, which makes sense since that's what's used to make red wine.

Previous studies have also shown drinking red wine can lessen your chances of getting dementia or cancer.

If one glass of red wine has all those benefits, what would happen if I drank the whole bottle with blueberries and chocolate? I'd bet the fittest, healthiest person around. Since my doctor said I needed to start exercising, which I hate doing, I'll just start drinking more red wine.

Leave it to my fellow Canadians to come up with benefits to booze!
