The Big East is hemmoraging more sports teams this morning.  After suffering the losses of Syracuse and Pitt, Notre Dame announced today that they would be leaving the confrence.

Notre Dame remains a football independent and member of the CCHA for hockey, but for all other sports, most critically basketball, Notre Dame jumps to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The South Bend Tribune quotes Notre Dame's Athletic Director on the decision:

"We have monitored the changing conference landscape for many months and have concluded that moving to the ACC is the best course of action for us," Notre Dame Athletic Director Swarbrick said in a written statement today. "This will enable us to maintain our historic independence in football, join in the ACC's non-BCS bowl package, and provide a new and extremely competitive home for our other sports."
