Starting with Thursday night’s two season-opening tilts, all NFL stadiums will display fantasy football stats prominently during games.

Until this season, it was left up to individual teams to decide whether they wished to air up-to-the-minute stats from other games.

As more and more NFL fans participate in fantasy football (an estimated 20 million Americans do so), some of them felt cut off from the action outside of the game they were attending.

“We know we have to continue to do more to keep fans coming to our games,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said. “We’re looking at ways to further replicate the at-home experience in the stadium.”

Attendance at games has been dropping in recent years, as some fans have opted to watch the games at home instead. This initiative is designed to bring the fans back by giving them more of what they crave.
