A lot of us shop at one or more of the many dollar stores here in Central New York.  It's a great way to save money on things we use every day.  However, according to Readersdigest.com, there are some products and items we should never buy at a dollar store.  Here are some of the things to avoid:

-Knives.  The quality won't be there and dull knives are very dangerous to use.

-Batteries.  They do have a shelf life and many dollars store companies buy the batteries from other retailers after they have been on their shelves too long.

-Fresh Food.   Since not as many people shop for fresh food at dollar stores, the products are not replaced as often as they are at a busy supermarket.

-Power Strips.  Thinner wires and poorly made.  Not work taking the chance of a fire.

-Medications.   Over the counter medications could be close to or beyond expiration dates.

-Pet Food.  You'll find better quality and reasonable prices at the big box stores that buy in bulk, like Walmart.
