Attention turkey hunters, your fall season will now be shorter. New York regulators have shortened the fall 2015 turkey hunting seasons because of a declining turkey population across the state.

The new fall seasons will only be two weeks long. According to CNYCentral, across the state there is also a season bag limit of one bird of either sex.

Season dates vary regionally with the season in the Northern Zone running October 1-14, the Southern Zone running October 17-30, and Suffolk County running November 21-December 4.

The reason behind this new change was due to the public. The Department of Environmental Conservation received around 120 comments expressing concern over the decline in turkey populations.
