The Toronto Raptors are proposing to add a team in the NBA's Developmental League. Two of the possible locations for a basketball team franchise are in New York State.

The Toronto Star speculate on five different cities, three of them in Ontario and two in New York, that might be the home of a new D-League team.

The locations talked about in New York are Buffalo and Rochester.

Buffalo

Buffalo is being coincided because of the close relationship the two cities have. Buffalo's Bills have played games in Toronto, the Buffalo Bison are the AAA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Since Buffalo doesn't have an NBA franchise, the team hopes to expand its fan base to Western New York.

Rochester

In Rochester's favor is the Blue Cross Arena, which is seen as a very high end stadium for a minor league team. And the city does well sustaining farm teams like the Amerks. The downside to Rochester is it's the furthest location, by car, from the cities being considered.

A D-League team in Upstate New York would be the league's second in the state joining the Westchester Knicks who play in White Plains. And regionally close to Western New York is the Erie Bay Haws, a D-League affiliate of the Orlando Magic.

Upstate New York's NBA Heritage

Upstate New York has a strong lineage in the NBA with Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse once fielding teams.

The Buffalo Braves played at the Memorial Auditorium from 1970-1978 before moving to San Digeo then Los Angeles where the team is today's Clippers

The Rochester Seagrams began play in 1923, became the Royals and after relcations to Cincinatti and Kansas City, settled in Sacramento as the Kings, making them the oldest team in the NBA.

Finally the Syracuse fielded the Nationals from 1946-1963 before they moved to Philadelphia to become the 76ers.
