New York Mills – Class D Boys State Champions

The New York Mills boys came from behind on Saturday in Glenns Falls to beat Coleman Catholic 57-50 in overtime.

Senior Nick Comenale scored nine-points in the final minutes to lead Mills to their third state title.  The Marauders beat Coleman Catholic two years ago to win the state championship back in 2011.  Head coach Mike Adey also won tyne Class D title in 1982.

The game was tied at 37 at the end of the third period and 49-49 at the end of regulation. Mills would outscore the Statesmen 8-1 in the extra session to win their third title in Class D.

Notre Dame Girls – Class B State Champions

Emily Durr broke a Section III scoring record on Saturday to lead Notre Dame of Utica to a Class B state championship at Hudson Valley Community College, with a 71-36 win over Bishop Kearney.

Notre Dame led the entire game, but pulled away in the fourth-period holding Bishop Kearney to only one free-throw.  Durr scored 29-points on the day, which broke a Section III record with a career total of 2,389 points.  That record was previously held by Breanna Stewart of Cicero-North Syracuse who now plays for University of Connecticut.

Durr received plenty of help from her teammates.  Claire Sehring, an eighth-grader, scored 19 points and junior Anari Harris had five 3-pointers and netted 17-points total.
