The Village of Herkimer Fire Department has a new fire truck.

The new truck was unveiled on Thursday.

Senator James Seward secured $250,000 in state funding to help with the purchase of the $450,000 pumper truck.

“It is imperative that our first responders are properly equipped – to protect life and property and to ensure their own safety,” said Seward.  “This new fire truck checks all the boxes and the state funding eases the burden on the village budget and local property taxpayers.”

Village of Herkimer Mayor Anthony Brindisi said, “The safety of our citizens is our number one priority.  However, financial stress, due in part to the 2013 flood, makes it difficult to afford major expenditures.  This grant from Senator Seward is a real difference maker and will protect lives and property in Herkimer.”

The new truck replaces the department's 1987 E-One Engine, which has been out of operation since December 2015.
